TopMovieLists maintains its website to allow general accessability by following the standards set forth in the World Wide Web Consortium's (W3C) Web Accessibility Initiative (WAI). The site at TopMovieLists.com has passed the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) for level-A conformance standards and has qualified to use the WAI Level-A logo:
To pass this we adhere to the following Priority 1 standards:
- all images have alt tags - if images are turned-off a description of the image is displayed in its place.
- all information can be seen in black and white - in the monitor cannot display color, or if the viewer cannot see a particular color, the text information is still visable.
- all captions are marked as such (figure, image, table, etc.)
- the site can be read without the use of cascading style sheets.
- dynamic content changes apply as soon as the data is entered - either locally or by a refresh from the server.
- we should be flicker free at any resolution.
- our language is straight-forward and should be easy to follow.
- we use column and row headers in our tables wherever appropriate.
In addition we adhere to the following Priority 2 standards:
- foreground and background colors have been coordinated to give good contrast.
- grammar and has been validated using a grammar checker.
- we use relative units like percentages (%) to control attributes and screen layout so a full-size window and a smaller window are both usable.
We also have tested the following:
- large fonts, small fonts and normal sized fonts.
- various current browsers including Internet Explorer 6, Netscape 7, and Opera 7.
